A new shifter world opens in turmoil in A Wolf’s Hunger: Rafe by A K Michaels

A K Michael’s new shifter series, a Wolf’s Hunger, opens with a world in turmoil.  Rafe, the Alpha of his pack, is suffering from a strange uncontrollable hunger that cannot be sated by any number of kills.  For days he has hunted in his wolf form as his Beta wolf has followed and worried.

Meanwhile, Tasha is on the run after a mysterious illness and an attack by rogue wolves has destroyed her pack.  At the insistence of her mother, Tasha fled the attack to warn other packs. After days of pursuit, the rogue wolves are almost on her heels.

I enjoyed this book tremendously.  The story is full of action from the very start and with only brief romantic interludes the plot continues at a fast pace until the mysteries are solved and the story resolved.  Rafe and Tasha are strong characters and the supporting characters are also well developed.  I look forward to other books in this series.

Safe Harbor, by Kit Kyndall

While bartending at a strip club, Julia witnesses her friend’s death at the hands of a mobster and she must go into witness protection until the trial. The marshals protecting her are betrayed and they are attacked.  As a last resort, one of the marshals sends her across country to find a someone she’s told will help her. Traumatized and confused, she soon finds her way to Justin’s ranch.

Justin is not in any shape for company. He’s fighting PTSD and doesn’t want anybody to see him.  He certainly isn’t ready to have a houseguest who’s depending on him.

Alone together at the ranch it is impossible for them to avoid each other. As they spend time together, Julia begins to break down his barriers and Justin’s resistance fades. Unfortunately for them, the mobster has a powerful incentive to track her down once he learns she has data files that will prove he and his group are guilty of a lot more than murder. Time is not on Julia’s side.  When the inevitable happens and they come after her, will Justin be able to overcome his PTSD and protect Julia?

This book was a fast, exciting read.  I really enjoyed watching the relationship develop between Justin and Julia.  The plot was not predictable and the story is self-contained with no cliffhangers.

Luther – Base Camp Bears by Amelia Jade

So, a bear shifter walks into a bar and runs into a friend.  Then he’s smitten with a cute waitress and says all the wrong things.  Then… all hell breaks loose.

Bear shifter Luther just lost his job with the Green Bearet border patrol due to budget cuts. He wanders into a bar in the neutral city of Cloud lake to drown his sorrows and decide what to do next.  Once there he’s smitten with Allix, a human who works as a waitress at the bar. When shifters from the Fenrir enclave arrive and cause trouble, he acts to defend her.  It turns out that the Fenrir shifters enclave have started attacking humans and shifters all over town. Fenrir has just declared war.  Luther and his friend have no choice but return to their old base in the Cadia enclave.

Allix has been wandering all her life looking for something.  She sees Luther in the bar and there’s definitely some special bond there.  Suddenly, Allix finds herself in the middle of a shifter war and in need of rescue.  Can love bloom in the shadow of war and can Allix finally find a place to belong?

This was an exciting story based in Amelia Jade’s Cadia shifter world.  Green Bearets – Luther is Book 1 in the Base Camp Bears series.  I thoroughly enjoyed the book.  It combined a lot of different elements such as shifter/human conflicts, conflicts between shifters, Military tactics and training, and of course romance.  The story is unpredictable and keeps your guessing what will happen next.

Angel Awakening, by Starr Huntress, S. A. Ravel & Emma Alisyn

I didn’t think I was going to like this book. I read a preview that I didn’t like much. However, I’ve read many of this author’s works and enjoyed them, so I gave the book the benefit of a doubt. I’m so glad I did.

The story was exciting from the very start with Abella breaking away from serving her family in a big way. She takes a job as a housekeeper on another planet. Her sister insists she return to “take care of the estate” but Abella wants to fly free for a change.

Abella doesn’t know a whole lot about her new job, but when her new boss suddenly “rises” from his sleep in the sea, it quickly becomes clear that their connection is special. But can Abella give up on her ideas of total freedom enough to allow Ishaiq, her winged Archan, to lean on her for the support he needs?

Warrior’s Bond, by Starr Huntress and Emma Alisyn

Yadeshi  Brides #1

Zoriah, a single mother with 3 children, works hard just to get by.  The class system on this rather dystopian earth isn’t easy on single mothers.  She’s not thrilled to fond out that  her son has been skipping school to train with alien warriors.

Benyon, a Yadeshi warrior, has been training her children and convinces her to make it official to keep her son out of trouble.    Soon she finds herself training to be a Yadeshi bride for the benefits provided.

Zoriah’s not thinking beyond the present, but Benyon has been planning ever since he met Zoriah…

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.  It had plenty of story background as the first book in the series, but the plot moves quickly and there’s plenty of romance.
