Wyvern’s Warrior by Deborah Cooke

Logic and emotion must be balanced when a cyborg meets a dragon princess

Wyvern’s Warrior is an interesting addition to The Dragons of Incendium Series by Deborah Cooke. (Book 3). Action, a cyborg mercenary is sent on a mission to Incendium. Thalina, a princess of Incendium, intercepts him sneaking into the vaults and realizes two things, he’s her mate, and he’s a cyborg. Thalina has longed to study cyborgs, but they are forbidden on Incendium so she now has an opportunity.

Action had some programming added just before he left on his mission and he believes he is being tested by the hive, the collective mind from his planet. Strange sensations and illogical things are happening to him and he’s not sure how to deal with them. As he and Thalina hide in the vaults, they discover many things, about themselves, each other, and Action’s mission.

The story is a fast-paced chase through the vaults and beyond. I found it exciting and thought-provoking. The cyborg learning about his new “programming” promotes lots of thinking about what makes one alive. Out of contact with the Hive, Action must adjust on his own, relying on his new programming and Thalina’s help.

This is the first book in the series I have read, but I did read the short story that proceeded it, which introduced some of the ideas about emotion vs logic. It will be interesting to see how the plot arcs develop in subsequent books and stories.

Omega Mu Alpha Box Set-Books 1-4, by Kimberly Loth

I love, love this series. The well-researched locations make me feel like I’ve been there, and the situations are varied and interesting.

The series is based in the romantic exploits of Omega Mu Alpha fraternity brothers who decided to each buy a Doberman when they made their first million. The brothers and dogs play prominently in each other’s stories and each story clearly shows the brothers regard for each other, even years after college. Each heroine is different with her own backstory and situations. The locations are so vividly drawn that they feel like another character in the story. From a few miles down the road to halfway across the world, the series’ scope is unlimited.

Nightblade, by Garrett Robinson

Nightblade is a wonderful, mad adventure that begins with Loren, a 15 year old girl who dreams of release from her abusive parents. Escaping into fantasy, she becomes Nightblade, wandering the world in a black cloak with a dagger at her side, stealing from the rich and righting wrongs. Then, her opportunity comes when she spots someone fleeing through the forest.

As Loren runs away from home, she has only her wits, swagger and a mysterious dagger to help her navigate her first adventures in the city. The story moves at a whirlwind pace as Loren makes friends and enemies and she tries to become Nightblade.

Nightblade is Book 1 of the Nightblade Epic and part of the Underrealm Saga

The Seekers, by Cait Ashwood

I was intrigued by the description for The Seekers by Cait Ashwood, and extremely pleased by the novel. The fantasy-magical setting is unique and the plot kept me guessing. I couldn’t predict what was going to happen and was glued to the story as it wound its way through changing alliances and betrayals until the cliffhanger ending.

To briefly summarize, Audrey feels adrift after her husband’s death. A stranger offers her a chance at adventure, an almost unbelievable one, but she has no ties and if she’s ever going to take a chance and break out of her routine, this feels like the time. The Stranger, called the Hound, is a seeker who spends his life looking for women who have the special potential to save his people from starvation. Such a calling may be just what Audrey’s been looking for, if she has the courage to take it.

The Seekers, is Book 1 of the Order of the Lily.  I can’t say more, the next book is out there somewhere, I’ve got to get to it!

Mountain Wolf, by Amber Ella Monroe

Cassie Grey’s nose for news has brought on more trouble than she was ready for.  Her investigation of the disappearance of shifters in Aspen Valley brings her a death threat and an urgent need to leave town.  She and her brother plan for her to hide out in a remote cabin, but a bad roof leaves her with nowhere to go.  Fortunately, Luke, one of her brother’s college friends, has a cabin rental business and can loan her a cabin next-door to his.

Cassie quickly falls for Luke despite their age difference.  Luke is hesitant for a lot of reasons.  It’s his best friends younger sister for one thing, for another he is a wolf shifter and neither Cassie nor her brother knows — at first.

Will Luke open up to Cassie and if he does, will she accept him despite the secret he’s been hiding?

This was a very enjoyable short novel with a satisfying HEA.  The mystery element of the story helps adds to the suspense of the situation.  This book is part of the Aspen Valley Wolf Pack series.
